TAS EuropeWhy join

Twenty-one reasons to join.

Each of them comes from the way people actually live in Europe: between two countries, two languages and two sets of rules. And ten more for the people who lead their communities.

For members

For you, your household and your family.

  1. Because one household has no bargaining power.

A single family asks for a better fare and is told the price. Hundreds of thousands of households, asking as one membership, set the terms.

  2. Because Europe is forty-plus countries, not one.

Every border changes the bank, the health system and the paperwork. Your membership is the one thing that stays the same on both sides.

  3. Because free movement is not free of paperwork.

Even with the right to move there is an address to register, an account to open and a licence to exchange. Our guides take you through each step, in your language.

  4. Because the journey home comes every summer.

August and the year’s end are when Europe’s families travel: the flight, the ferry, the long road south. We negotiate for exactly those weeks and those routes.

  5. Because money sent home should be sent on fair terms.

Every transfer to a parent or a child carries a cost. We negotiate as one body, so that the terms are set for the many and not for the one.

  6. Because a diploma should cross the border with you.

A nurse, an electrician or an engineer trained elsewhere often has to prove it again. We guide you to the body that recognises your profession, and to the courses that close the gap.

  7. Because the European Health Insurance Card is not cover where you live.

It serves you on a temporary stay. In the country where you live you need to be inside its own system; our guides and household programmes take you there.

  8. Because roaming rules end where the EU and the EEA end.

London, Zurich, Istanbul, Casablanca, Manila: the calls that matter most to our members are the ones those rules do not reach. We negotiate for them.

  9. Because a pension may be earned in three countries.

Years worked in different countries are not lost, but each country has to be asked. We guide members and their families through the claim.

  10. Because a new country does not know your credit history.

Twenty years of paying on time in one country count for little in the next. Our banking programmes serve people who are starting again.

  11. Because we never ask about your status.

Free movement, visa, permit or none of these: the membership is the same. We do not ask for it, collect it or store it.

  12. Because children are included.

Children under 18 are included on a parent’s membership, and several programmes are made for them: mother-tongue classes, school guidance, summers with family abroad.

  13. Because your first 90 days are free.

One membership for each adult. Joining takes about a minute, in any of our four languages.

  14. Because we answer in your language.

English, French, Spanish and German: on this site, in the chat and in every reply by e-mail.

  15. Because fraud looks for people far from home.

False officials, deposits paid for flats that do not exist, jobs that cost money to get. Scam Watch shows how each one works and how to check before you pay.

  16. Because your consulate matters more than you expect.

A passport to renew, a birth to register, a document to legalise. The Consular Desk explains how to reach yours and what to bring.

  17. Because Europeans abroad are members too.

From São Paulo to Dubai to Sydney, the card you carry is recognised by every regional house of the family: the Americas, Canada, India, China, Africa, East Asia and West Asia.

  18. Because coming back is its own arrival.

After years away, the bank, the insurer and the health system treat you as new. Your membership helps you settle again.

  19. Because parents grow old in another country.

Care at a distance is one of the hardest parts of a life lived between countries. Our family and elder-care programmes are designed for it.

  20. Because nobody should be buried by collection.

When a member dies far from home, the network stands with the family: repatriation, or a dignified burial where they live.

  21. Because together is stronger.

It is the name and it is the method. People who live between countries are heard when they speak as one.

Membership is free for the first 90 days — one membership per adult, with children under 18 included on a parent’s membership.

For community leaders

Ten reasons for community leaders.

Hometown associations, cultural and faith groups, student and professional societies have carried their communities for decades. These are the reasons they join the European network.

  1. Because your association joins at no cost for its first 90 days.

That is the offer, and it is the same for an association of thirty families as for one of thirty thousand.

  2. Because you keep everything that is yours.

Your name, your leadership, your money and your independence remain your own. TAS Europe stands behind you, not in front of you.

  3. Because your members receive the benefits.

Every programme the family negotiates is open to the members of your association, in all twelve areas.

  4. Because a village association is no longer too small to be heard.

Fifty families from one town cannot negotiate with a carrier or a bank. Inside a European network, they can.

  5. Because of the Mutual Aid Compact.

When a member dies far from home, the associations of the Compact stand together, so that no community passes the hat alone. It is solidarity, not insurance.

  6. Because you take a seat in the European network.

From Lisbon to Warsaw, associations share what works: the funeral fund, the weekend language school, the youth section.

  7. Because members who move stay connected.

When a family leaves Lyon for Brussels, or Manchester for Malmö, the card moves with them, and so does the link to your association.

  8. Because the tools are ready.

The guides, Scam Watch, the Consular Desk and free help near you are yours to share with your members, in four languages and free.

  9. Because you are heard on what the membership negotiates.

Leaders know what their communities need: the route, the season, the document that blocks everything. The network listens to them.

  10. Because those who serve deserve recognition.

Most associations run on evenings and weekends, freely given. The network honours that work and stands beside those who do it.

Associations join at no cost for their first 90 days and keep their name, their leadership and their independence.
